Obama expanding mortage aid

Obama expanded a $50 billion mortgage aid program, showing a good thing that would help homeowners avoid a foreclosure if they don’t qualify for other assistance. The Obama administration knows that not every person who is behind on their loans will qualify for a modification. Officials estimate up to 4 million borrowers will get their loans modified, but in actuality it might in fact even be less than half of that. I think that this looks good for those who are struggling in these tough economic times. Although they did put themselves in the predicament we should still bail them out to help out our fellow citizens.

Obama giving out scholarships at ASU

Arizona State University will have a graduation ceremony with Obama speaking. Many people are excited to see our president show up to their graduation and give an inspirational speech. On top of that, he is giving out scholarships to the top 5 students, $17,000 annually to pay for tuition, books, room and board. I think that this is a great opportunity for those who are doing exceptionally well in academics. For all their hard work I think that it is only right to help them out with these rising prices of tuition costs and every other asset. Hopefully more schools will start to adopt these scholarships since it looks like tuition costs are going up.

National Prayer Day

President Obama signs day of prayer in private. Hmm.. National Day of Prayer and the people don't have a say in it? If this day of prayer is a day of peace and prayer amongst a variety of religions I would accept it. However, if it was just a prayer day for some religions, I would think it is unfair towards other religions. What do you think?

Obama meets with foreign president

President Obama meets with Afghanistan and Pakistan Presidents to discuss plans on fighting the Taliban. Obama got the agreement that the U.S would aid both against insurgents against the countries civilians. You can say this is good on helping other foreign countries and trying to stop peace. However, we are sending in 21,000 troops as aid, I thought we were supposed to try and get troops out of there? What do you guys think, is it a good call to come to the aid of the countries and fight against terrorism?

Obama talking about Chrysler

President Obama said Chrysler lenders who turned down his buyout offers have forced the automaker into bankruptcy. President Obama first offered lenders $2 billion. After refusal he then raised the offer to $2.25 billion. This sounds like terrible news for Chrysler. They had a couple good cars that are worth getting, such as the 300, Pacifica, or even the crossfire for the sporty type.

Obama fighting for crack concaine sentence changes!

President Obama urged Congress to end a racial imbalance by equalizing prison sentences for dealing and using crack vs. powdered cocaine. I think that this is a good thing, but I think that there are more issues far more important than drugs. Saying the government should focus on punishing drug trafficking organizations and those who commit violent acts of crimes. He is also seeking to increase drug treatment, with more reliable rehabilitation programs for felons after they're released from prison. Although these crooks might be on a nice road to being clean, you can bet that about more than half of those criminals will go back to their old ways.

Go Away Racism!

President Obama warned against the "dangers of silence," stating that everyday, somewhere in the world people must resist the feeling to turn away from events of horror, hate and injustice. Obama paid respect to those who risked their own lives to help those targeted by the Nazis escape. This is great news, lets stop racism! It is a terrible thing and it should be all turned in to love and peace. We shouldn't be going to war with our own kind over a disagreement.

Credit Card users

President Obama announced Thursday that he is determined to get a credit card law that abrogates the tricky fine print, sporadic rate increases and late fees that give millions of people stress. Obama also said that his economic advisers will look in to the numerous proposals and work with Congress and the industry. He made it very clear that he wants to sign a bill into law.

Obama's making millions last year

President Obama and his wife Michelle are millionaires from his best-selling books. All of the profit came from Obama's best selling books. "Dreams from My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope" brought in about $2.5 million last year. I never knew that Obama was making millions before becoming our president.

President Barack Obama meets with Mexican President Felipe Calderon

Obama is addressing a security threat on America's border. Obama arrived in Mexico for a diplomatic mission to come out with an agreement on drugs and guns with a our neighbor, Mexico. President Calderon said "In order for Mexico to grow and prosper, Mexico needs the United States' investments, and the United States of America needs the strength of the Mexican labor force." Hopefully this will help our situation on the war on drugs and help us out in the future.

Obama's meeting with the Queen of England

The Obama's traveled to England to meet with the Queen and her husband. They all exchanged gifts that they bought for each other. The Obama's gave the Queen a personalized iPod with video footage of her 2007 visit to Washington and Virginia. In return the queen and her husband, Prince Philip, gave the Obamas a signed portrait of themselves. Who knows if they talked about politics and our current crisis? Maybe it was just a welcome visit to the Queen of England.

Obama trying to stop bonuses in AIG

Barack Obama is heading to California to face questions over the AIG executive bonus scandal. These bonuses were to give $165 million to executives that has made the company bankrupt. I think that it is outrageous to even think about giving the executive that much money for the position they put us in today. If they used the money correctly we wouldn't have to give them a 165$ bonus. Obama also said Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner who will be handling the situation with AIG. Hopefully he will come up with a solution to not give these executives money for their bad mistakes putting the company in bankruptcy.

Obama blamed for Stock Market low?

Since November 4, Election Day, the Standard & Poor's 500-stock index is off about 25 percent, and since January 20 the "500" is down 15 percent. I honestly don't think Obama is to blame for this stock market disaster. He came in to presidency in a bad time and just needs to fix things little by little.

Obama Seeking Tax Increase in Budget Plan

President Barack Obama proposed almost $1 trillion in higher taxes over the next decade on the highest earning Americans. Obama’s 2010 budget proposal would reinstate the top two Clinton era tax rates of 36 percent and 39.6 percent, up from the 33 percent and 35 percent the richest Americans pay now. This would affect about 2.6 million taxpayers.

Obama speech to the Congress

Last night was Barack Obama's speech to congress. I thought it was a good confident booster to those he is helping. I know some of the issues he addressed made me feel better to know that he was handling some of our problems. Lowering Health Insurance, making our educational system more efficient, and cutting taxes for people who earn below a quarter million(250,000) a year. He is also addressing the energy sources issue, as well as medicine. Let see what is coming to us in the next coming years and hopefully we will come out even stronger.

Obama heads to meet with Canada's Prime Minister

President Obama meeting with Canada's prime minister on his first official trip abroad. Obama warned against a "strong impulse" toward protectionism while the world suffers a global economic recession and said efforts to renegotiate NAFTA will have to wait. Obama said he wants to find a way to keep his campaign pledge to add labor and environmental standards to the continent's trade agreements without interrupting trade. This sounds good; maybe we will get out of this with some help from our neighboring countries. Obama said during the campaign that he would consider opting out of NAFTA if he was unable to renegotiate it.

Obama sending more troops

The United States will put pressure this week on its NATO allies to increase their commitments to Afghanistan. U.S. President Barack Obama has ordered in 17,000 more troops to battle a downhill insurgency. He announced the troops were needed to "stabilize a deteriorating situation." I thought he was supposed to get us out of this stupid conflict? We will need to watch very closely what he is doing overseas and make sure were not heading to another world war. The U.S. troop increase will bring U.S. numbers in Afghanistan to around 55,000. Allies from 40 other mostly NATO countries have around 30,000 in total.

Compromise met on Stimulus Package

The $789 billion plan slims down some of the tax breaks in the Senate's version of the bill and restores some spending for school repair and construction and state assistance in the House version. The total is lower than the stimulus bills passed separately by the House and Senate. There will be more than one-third of the bill is dedicated to tax cuts for the middle class. This sounds fantastic, more jobs and school repairs. The economists are urging in their prediction that if we do not act, we face a potential catastrophe and a depression like in 1929. This plan creates 3.5 million jobs for those who are jobless. It is possible the House could take the bill as early as Thursday and the Senate possibly on Friday.

Obama going Green

Barack Obama shows action on the energy front who ordered his government on Thursday to establish higher efficiency standards for household appliances such as dishwashers, lamps and microwave ovens. This sounds great to me; it will help cope with our environmental problems. This will save consumers money, this will spark innovation, and this will conserve vast amounts of energy. Obama has taken a major step toward letting California and other states target greenhouse gases through stricter auto emission standards. And he has also ordered new federal rules directing automakers to start making more fuel efficient cars as required by law.

Children's Health Insurance

President Barack Obama signed a bill Wednesday expanding the health coverage to 4 million uninsured children. The bill went to the White House fresh from passage on a vote of 290-135. I think this is a good thing for our country. Our children now will be the future of this country, so we must help them succeed. It will provide millions of uninsured children with important health care coverage.
The bill calls for spending an additional $32.8 billion on the State Children's Health Insurance Program, known as SCHIP, which now has an estimated 7 million children. They came up with the money by raising the federal tobacco tax. This news sounds great to me. There will be less children smoking and more health coverage. It will definitely take down the number of people smoking.

Obama talks about the Future of the Automobile

President Barack Obama revealed his energy policy on Monday. The policy at least, the most important details are to increase fuel efficiency and lower greenhouse gas spewed out of automobiles.

Mr. Obama spoke for 10 minutes in the East Room of the White House before signing an order allowing the Environmental Protection Agency to grant California and 13 other states the right to set their own emitting standards, especially reversing the policy of the previous administration.

Obama's plan to stimulate economy

Today, Sunday January 25, 2009 Obama urges to pass a massive stimulus package. He states "Just this week, we saw more people file for unemployment than at any time in the last 26 years, and experts agree that if nothing is done, the unemployment rate could reach double digits." Is that what the United States really needs, more money to get out of this recession? Barack wants to pass an $825 billion economic stimulus package, which he hopes will create up to 4,000,000 jobs over the next two years. The president hopes to have the plan passed by our Congress for signing by February 16, on Presidents Day. After a stimulant bill is passed a site www.recovery.gov will show tax payers where their money is being spent, Obama said Saturday.
